One of the most cost-effective memory foam toppers on the market is the isotonic memory foam mattress topper/pad. This memory foam topper provides extremely comfortable feel from its 2" 4 lb visco elastic memory foam that can be easily found on the market around $120 for twin size and about $160 for queen size, but it has one downside. Even thou the feeling is great, the mattress pad has quite poor cover and it looks a bit odd with the standard cotton mattress cover that comes with it. The problem is that the topper is light red-brown or dark yellow (see the image above) and the cotton cover does not help it blend too much and your bed looks a bit yellowish. If you don’t care about the looks I’ll definitely confirm that this topper is on one of the cheapest prices I’ve ever seen on the market and it’s a great buy.

It is interesting that some isotonic memory foam mattress pad stores offer their own mattress covers and they differ quite a lot. Some of them are quite well made and you won’t have that yellowish effect, but the one that I sow in most stores was quite thinner than its supposed to be. Actually the standard cover is quite nice in terms of breathability and it will help you decrease your body temperature easily and therefore fall in deep sleep faster (you need to cool down to sleep deeper and that’s why during the summer its so hard to fall asleep). The typical waterproof covers are not breathable and this makes them a bit uncomfortable in terms of sweating and such. In most cases I’d recommend that you stick with the breathable cotton covers instead of waterproof ones. I suggest waterproof covers only when you have the big chances of “accidents” with animals or little kids because memory foam is very hard to wash and requires a lot of efforts so it’s better to be on the safe side....

I‘d like to note that 2" visco elastic memory foam is really nice, but not that much. This really depends on what kind of mattress you have as base. If you have firmer mattress then basically 2" topper will be just fine, and if you have harder mattress then it would be really nice if you get thicker memory foam mattress topper. The isotonic memory foam topper is really nice, but if it had a bit more in it, then that would really make it awesome. I don‘t know why most memory foam manufacturers have as a standard 2" and 4" and not have the 3" as option, but I guess they didn‘t ask me when they started their product lines.

Usually I don‘t suggest people to do experiments at home, but this time I‘ll do one exception. I‘ll give you the following suggestion. Buy one isotonic memory foam topper – around $160 for queen size bed. Try it on and see how it feels. If you have firmer mattress that might not be enough and you might need a bit more, but if it‘s a softer one then one memory foam topper will be enough. If one is not enough, then you might consider buying one more to add over the other. This will bring you the 4" memory foam feeling which can be compared only to the $900+ mattresses and this can save a lot of money for the same feeling.

The isotonic memory foam topper is really great product for people that look for good tempurpedic functionality not the beauty in beds. Me, as a person that has problems with his back, I‘d say that the memory foam feel is the only thing that I care about and when I fall asleep I can‘t really see the "beauty" of my mattress so why that should be important. Anyway you‘re up for that decision and it‘s your opinion weather this mattress topper will do the trick or not, but whatever you decide remember that all manufacturers offer 30 or 60 days money back guarantee and if you don’t feel like it, you can easily return it or exchange it with another topper. Just make sure you read the Terms before you purchase!
