For quite a while now, I’ve been asked to post some information on memory foam toppers and possibly to classify/review some of the most famous brands. I guess today is the day when I finally got enough time to sit down and get some information out to you guys/gals.
I the first memory foam topper that I’d like to cover is TempSoma Toppers.
I’m not sure where that name comes from, but every time I hear the word Soma, I remember the book Brave New World where humans were given the medicine SOMA to make them calm down and relaxed. This drug was presented as great anti-depressant and relaxation treatments and I guess this really has something to do with the TempSoma Memory Foam Toppers. I’m not saying that this is a drug or something like that.
TempSoma mattress toppers are made of ultra-high density Visco Elastic slow recovery foam (that’s the best memory foam available on the market) which provides exceptional support and comfort while eliminating pressure points. This special kind of memory foam toppers supplies customized comfort for the whole body. Ultrafresh, anti-microbial finish guards against bacterial odors, plus resists mold, mildew, and alg. Most TempSoma memory foam toppers come with removable, zippered cover, made out of 100% cotton and is machine washable which makes is so easy to clean.
This memory topper uses one of the most technologically advanced foams that is able to distinguish individual body weight and temperature, molding itself to your unique contours, and ensuring a better night’s sleep for you and your partner…
The best thing about this memory foam topper is that it’s not only a great memory foam topper, but it’s also one of the cheapest memory foam toppers within the high quality memory foams. I’ve seen it in many stores with prices around $140 for twin size memory foam toppers, $180 for queen size and around $200 for king size. As a matter of fact, I haven’t seen California King size TempSoma Memory Foam Mattresses, but I guess if you’re a CA King you’ll be able to pay the full price of good quality mattress instead of going only with topper.
I’ve mentioned before that memory foam mattresses are quite better than memory foam toppers, but if you have a good spring mattress, memory foam topper can save you a pile of money and bring you almost the same comfort as full size mattress. That’s mainly because most bases for memory foam mattresses have similar structure like generic spring mattresses and only the few additional layers of different density memory foams is what makes the huge difference in their prices. Basically the feel of high quality topper on good spring mattress is just the same and medium quality memory foam mattress.
bed, you’d better go with some luxurious memory foam mattress instead of topper, but I guess 99% of us can’t afford it and we stick with whatever we can adjust to our budgets.
In my next posts, I’ll give you few more good quality toppers that I’ve tested myself and I feel comfortable in suggesting as good-for-the-price products.

Message: I just purchased a tempasoma mattress topper. When I first got into my bed and laid down on it I told my husband that “I felt like I was somewhere else”. I slept through the night(usally wake upat least once)and woke up the next morning feeling slightly less achey. However the next night, when I got into bed I smelled a chemical scent.
After checking all around my room, I realized it was the foam matress topper! I woke up a few times during the night and could smell it .
Does anybody know anything about the fumes from the topper? Are they toxic..will they go away?
Thanks
Dawn

Message: We have high quality, super dense memory foam beds and mattresses that have a 90-day in home trial, 20 year warranty, and the highest density memory foam in the industry. There are a lot of other memory foam beds out and this one is the highest quality bed out there. Tempurpedic might have invented this, but it doesn’t mean that they still make the best memory foam beds. They have not done much in the way of improving their product, but we have!

Message: Dear Dawn,
Don’t worry about the smell from the Tempsoma Topper. This is only temporary. In few days/maybe a week or so, it will go away. If it doesn’t then I’d advise you to uncover it and put it on the terrace to get some fresh air. That will speed up with the process. Usually they smell a bit if not processed normally.
On your other question, no the memory foam mattresses do not contain any toxic chemicals and are not poisonous. The smell is actually from the main ingredient, but as I said above it vanishes quickly.
If you have any more questions, I’ll be happy to answer them all.
Cheers,
Venetsian.

Message: can you put your heating pad matress cover on top of the topper? Or will that melt the foam or change the ‘temperature’ of the topper

Message: This is not a product that I would recommend for the elderly. My wife and I are in our mid 50′s and have struggled with this product from the start. It is hard to unroll, and the mattress cover is very hard to fit. We still don’t have the mattress cover on. Had I known that it was going to be such a hassle to fool with I would not have spent $130.00 on this product. Keep up the good work. I will not be recommending this to my friends.

Message: My wife & I love the comfort, but we also have noticed a chemical scent that hasn’t gone away yet. It has been about a week & a half & we can still smell it. I to am wondering if it is toxic or not. We haven’t felt sick because of it. Does anyone have any information about this? Please contact me if you do.
Thanks,
Todd

Message: The chemical smell lingered on mine for about 2 weeks then was gone. Now, just perfect, perfect sleep! I have had trouble sleeping through the night for awhile now (I am 30 with osteo-arthritis) but this seems to have solved my sleep issues. I am perfectly happy with this product!

Message: I bought an Isotonic memory foam mattress topper about a week ago, and it was absolutely wonderful! One thing I noticed was that it had a chemical “sharpy-like” smell. Sharpies are toxic, obviously, so I am worried about sleeping on foam that smells like a sharpie. Is it dangerous?

Message: I bought one yesterday from Sam’s. It was kind of a hassle carrying the thing up the stairs and opening and unraveling it. My girlfriend and I are well over thirty and we did it together in about an hour. It has to sponge up after it comes out of the vacuum bag. I have been waking up adolorido during the night. My shoulders are sore at night and so is my back. This morning I woke up with a slight tingle from my shoulders and hardly anything else. My girlfriend stayed last night and she generally likes to talk before sleeping. This time she was snoring in nothing flat and would wake up to say sorry and then doze off again. It is worth the money and the hassle. I am very satisfied with my purchsse. I sleep with the ceiling fan on to keep the air moving. I took the box and bags out to lessen the smell. We are teachers and we MUST sleep. I took a gamble and won. I feel great right now. Richard Soto, San Anto, Texas

Message: does anyone ever comment here except for the smell. what about getting the cloth cover piece on the topper and your bed. what a bad design. really sad the foam topper is great but the cover sucks.

Message: I LOVE the tempsoma Topper. Putting the cover on the mattress pad took about 15 minutes but I think the design is ingenious. I liked the fact that the foam is zippered into the top of the cover and the entire thing wraps around the mattress like a sheet. This will keep the entire cover from slipping. The first night I put it on my bed was the best nights sleep I had in a long time.
As for the smell, it is annoying for the first week but each night is lessens. The comfort outweighs the smell…….I would recommend a tempsoma mattress cover to anyone who cannot afford a new mattress but cannot get comfortable on the one they currently have.

Message: Is there any way to clean the pad from the dog urinating on it????? She was left too long in the room and had an expensive accident.
Comment by: Venetsian
Message: Dear Kathy, dog urine spots can be cleaned the same way. Just note that you must spray the spot with some perfume so that the dog won’t do it again (covers theirs smell).

Message: You can spray the smell away with febreze

Message: I am looking for a mattress for my mother. She has an adjustable bed, so I was thinking of getting her a Tempsoma 12 inch foam mattress. Can you use a foam mattress on adjustable beds? Will they give enough to bend properly when the adjustable bed is bent? If foam is not a good mattress for this kind of bed, what is another (not to expensive) mattress I should look at.

Message: I bought a new tempsoma mattress from Sams about six months ago and at first it was great but within three to four months I noticed it starting to get soft on both sides. My wife is 69 and weights about 295. She has to spend more time in bed due to health. Her side compresses down to about two inches in thickness and is becoming unusable. My weight is 212 and is also starting to sag on top. We need help on this one.

I have purchased and this was a mistake. I had to remove it after the first night because I woke up with a severe migraine because of the smell. I know that I am sensitive to smells so I aired this out for a whole month before I even used it. I put it on my bed and even put my plastic zippered dustmite cover over to help seal in the smell. that did not help. my sheets smelled and now somehow my plastic cover smells and i had to wash. If anyone knows of a good topper that does not smell please let me know. short of spending a couple thousand of a new bed that is…anyone with Migraines beware of these toppers….they really smell! this is not my first one either
I just bought a king size topper at Sams today, but I really needed it for a queen size. Can these toppers be cut? I got a fitted cover with all elastic sides for my matress cover, works great.
How come you have to get rid of the topper if you sweat? and How much sweat/how long did you sweat?
Does anyone from tempsoma reply to these comments?
Can you cut these toppers from a king to make it fit a queen?
mine has a ragged cut (completely torn off) on one corner. Are these 2nd’s from Sams?
I was reading the reviews on this memory foam topper and find very interesting that most of the complaints are about the “SMELL”. I am planning to buy a foam topper for my bed……..here is some helpful info for all that that complained about the SMELL.. if you have a air purifier or have access to one, get it and use it. I own an ecoquest air purifier ( you dont have to use an ecoquest) and it does purify any oders in your home…put it in the room near the bed and crank that baby up for the day and it will help to air out the oder faster. Its worth a try.
Bought a king at sams and opened and aired it out the first 2 days. Put it on the next night, tho we needed a queen we let it hang over w/cover sheet on top. Didn’t want to cut to size in case we didn’t like. I cut it to size and have a 16″ strip that can be used in many places. Should have bought this 10 yrs. ago. We are 55, and if she’s happy–I’m happy.
I want to buy a topper because my bed is sooo hot. Does this topper really make you cool in the summer? I need to know before purchasing.
Do not buy this item. It not only smell bad but never expanded back to normal size. the queen size topper I got from sams club and let is stay in my closet for an year and I opened it now to use for a project. It will not expand even after 3 weeks. the compressed version of these will never get expanded after some period of shelf life. Has 10 Years warranty alright but I lost the receipt.
I bought my topper from Sams a few weeks ago … after reading some of the comments about a “bad” smell coming from the foam I opened it up and laid it on top
of my guest bed for a week. No more fumes and it
was wonderful to sleep on after that. Putting the cover on the topper was very easy .. it fit like a mattress pad. I thought my old feather/down bed topper was the best there was .. but I think I’ve changed my mind and this topper is much cooler.
You recommend the tempasoma mattress topper yet gave an award to the Sleep-Aid Dream Topper with the cooling groves. Can you elaborate on the issue of heat with the tempasoma and why you recommended the tempasoma over the Sleep-Aid?
Where can I purchase a sofa bed than uses a Tempsona mattress, not a topper. The fold out bed is made out of wooden slats not a spring system?
Name or brand would be helpful.
I purchased a TempSoma king size 3″ topper and it was more than I expected. From the very start it expanded fully to the king size, and had little order at all. I left it out on top of my bed for two days and on the third, I made the bed up and it slept beautifully! I would recommend this topper to anyone who needs a good night’s sleep. It also has two sides, one for sleeping in the same position (flat side), and one for a more invigorating comfort. I like them both, but preferred the ridged side the best.
Temp soma is my first choice.. we have three of them and WE ALWAYS air them on the screened porch for a day or so before sleeping on them ……
common sense goes a long way
